Chilean writer wins Ibero-American Literature Award

Chilean writer Pedro Lemebel has won the 2013 Jose Donoso Ibero-American Literature Award, Chile's University of Talca announced Wednesday.

Among his most outstanding works are "The Corner is My Heart" (1995), "Crazy Desire: Chronicles of Sidario" (1996), "Pearls and Scars" (1998) and "Talk Me About Love" (2012).

Lemebel, 60, has been recovering from larynx cancer since 2011.

The Ibero-American Literature Award, in honor of Chilean writer Jose Donoso, includes a medal, a diploma and a 50,000-U.S.-dollar prize.

The award has been given since 2001 by the University of Talca. Mexican writer Juan Villoro won the award in 2012. Endi
