The Australian federal election on Saturday has become a game of no surprise. Hours before the closing of the booths at 6 p.m. local time, Sky News/Newspoll exit poll predicted that the Coalition is heading for a landslide victory and leader Tony Abbott is to become prime minister of the country.

The exit poll showed that the Coalition will gain 25 more seats to a total of 97 seats in the House of Oppositions while Labor is expected to lose 21 seats to 51 seats.

The two-party preferred result, based on marginal seats in New South Wales and Queensland, gave the Coalition 53 percent of the vote against Labor's 47 percent.

Almost every opinion polls before the polling day indicated that the Liberal-National Coalition will achieve a big win. The latest Newspoll conducted for The Australian newspaper predicts Abbott is on course for a win of 40-seat majority over his rival, Labor leader and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

The poll published in The Australian newspaper on Saturday showed the Coalition with 46 percent primary vote support compared to Labor's 33 percent, the Australian Greens' nine percent and others' 12 percent. Endi
