Ukraine's grain output would reach a record high of 60 million tons this year, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said here Thursday.

"Ukrainian farmers have already reaped around 36 million tons of grain. The average yield reached 31.6 centners (about 3,160kg) per hectare, up 17 percent from last year," Azarov told a government meeting.

The sound development of the agricultural industry would support other sectors, such as science, mechanical engineering and transport, he said.

High crop output would allow the East European nation to boost grain exports and expand its sales markets.

Ukraine planned to export grain to the European Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Bangladesh, India, Japan and other nations, Azarov said. Endi
