The the U.S. soccer federation has invited the Iranian national team for a friendly match in the United States, Tehran Times daily reported on Saturday.
"U.S. football officials are interested in holding a four-team tournament, featuring the U.S., Iran, a South American team, and a European team," Iranian Football Federation President Ali Kafashian was quoted as saying.
"We have received approval from the U.S. federation to attend the tournament," Kafashian said in reference to the invitation.
Iran will play the United States for the third time, he added.
The two soccer teams have played twice before. Iran defeated the U.S. 2-1 at the 1998 World Cup in France, and both sides played to a 1-1 draw in a match in Pasadena, California two years later.
Iran and the United States have both qualified for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Endi
