Russia expects Dutch to fully probe apartment burglary

Russia said Friday it expected Dutch authorities to find those who broke into an apartment rented by its embassy staff in the Netherlands.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the apartment, rented by a member of the embassy's administrative technical staff who was on vacation at the time, was burgled late Thursday.

"The country's authorities were immediately informed about the burglary. Police have arrived at the place promptly and started investigation," the ministry said in a statement.

"We proceed from a belief that Dutch authorities will undertake comprehensive measures to find those who committed that wrongdoing," it said.

Dutch Foreign Minister Franciscus Timmermans has voiced his regret over the burglary.

It is the latest in a string of diplomatic incidents involving Russia and the Netherlands in the past two weeks.

A Russian diplomat was detained by Dutch police in the Hague for suspected child abuse earlier this month.

Shortly after that, two unidentified men broke into the apartment of a Dutch diplomat in Moscow and allegedly assaulted him.

The diplomatic friction comes ahead of a visit to Moscow by the King of the Netherlands on Nov. 9. Endi
