Wildlife officials in Botswana have expressed concerns on Wednesday over the increasing cross- border poaching in the region.

Speaking at a regional workshop on wildlife poaching and trafficking, Botswana's Permanent Secretary in the Environment, Wildlife and Tourism Ministry, Neil Fitt said poachers and traders, driven by high profit, have become more organized and sophisticated.

He said in Botswana, the poachers are already threatening the county's tourism industry as they go and kill the animals in game reserves.

Addressing the participants earlier when officially opening the workshop, U.S. Ambassador to Botswana Michelle Gavin said that to help deal with cross boarder poaching, coordinated, inter agency response by the region's governments and communities is critical.

A total of 60 participants from all over the southern Africa region and some international non governmental organizations attended the two-day workshop organized by the United States embassy in Botswana and the Botswana's government. Endi
