The Osaka Marathon 2013 kicked off at 9:00 a.m. local time on Sunday in the western Japanese City of Osaka with the participation of 31,863 runners from 35 countries and regions from all over the world.
The 3rd edition of the marathon event was organized by the Osaka Prefectural Government, the city of Osaka and the Osaka Association of All Athletics.
According to the organizers, this year, the biggest number of registration for the marathon start is coming from China with 1, 082 runners, followed by the United States with 70. Among the five invited foreign athletes, the best runner is Mongolia's Ser-Od Bat- Ochir with his best record of two hours 11 minutes and five seconds.
The best Japanese runner is Sho Matsumoto with a time of two hours 13 minutes and 38 seconds.
The race is held in the city center, starting at a point near the main gate of Osaka Castle, and it follows a course taking in several commercial and business zones, such as Nakanoshima and Namba, also passing across the city's landmarks Midosuji before finishing at Intex Osaka, a convention facility located in the city's main ferry terminal.
