Three people, the pilot and two passengers, were found dead on Tuesday after their light plane crashed into a wooded area on the island of Gran Canaria late on Monday night.

The three victims were two flight instructors and a student, who is reported to have been from Venezuela, according to local media reports.

Emergency services had been looking for the plane, which had taken off from the airport on Gran Canaria at 20:45 local time, after contact with the control tower was lost 45 minutes later.

Air traffic control alerted emergency services of the loss of contact with the plane at around 22:00. The plane which belonged to the flying school, Canavia de Lineas Areas SL crashed in a rocky area at around 500 meters above sea level in an area that is difficult for rescue services to access due to the lacks of roads or pathways.

The cause of the accident has yet to be determined. Endi
