Developing countries will gain the most from the global trade deal delivered by the World Trade Organization (WTO) Saturday, chief of the organization Roberto Azevedo said here.

Azevedo, Brazil's former trade envoy who took the WTO helm in September, made the remarks at a press conference following the approval of deal by the WTO's 159 members for the first time in nearly two decades.

"People all around the world will benefit from the package delivered especially the poor, the unemployed and the vulnerable," Azevedo told reporters with the Indonesian trade minister Gita Wirjawa after the closing ceremony of the 9th Ministerial Conference in Indonesian resort island Bali.

Reechoing Azevedo, the conference chairman Gita said most of the benefits will flow to developing countries as it enables governments to implement food security programs without fear.

The bulk of the trade deal or the Bali Package was the "low- hanging fruit" of the Doha round of talks, aiming to give developing countries more options for food security and promoting least developed countries' trade.

However, the Doha round launched in 2001 was stalled repeatedly as rich countries and the poor nations were unable to reach a consensus.

Azevedo said that the WTO is going to take up the Doha round as a whole following the harvest of Bali package, and establish a roadmap to see how to proceed with the work of concluding the round. Endi
