Foreign Ministers and senior officials of the member countries of Developing Eight will meet in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss economic cooperation, the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
D8 groups developing Islamic countries -- Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
The meeting will take important decisions in regard to early implementation of the Preferential Trade Agreement and activation of private sector, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif, Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutolu and senior officials from other member states will attend the meeting.
Adviser to Pakistani Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz, will inaugurate the Council meeting.
The Council comprising the Foreign Ministers of member states is the political decision making organ. It precedes the Summit and functions in accordance with the guidelines and policy directives of the Summit.
The next Council meeting will be held in Turkey in the last quarter of 2014.
"In its capacity as the chair of the D8, Pakistan along with other member countries is making efforts to enable the private sectors to enhance business and trade among the membership," the Foreign Ministry said.
The current intra-D8 trade stands at 150 billion U.S. dollars, which is to increase to 500 billion U.S. dollars in four years.
Pakistan is keen to commence the process of tariff reduction by member states. Endi
