Empowering reading culture campaign launched in Brunei

The 2014 Empowering Reading Culture Project was launched by the Language and Literature Bureau under Brunei's Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports on Thursday.

The project aims to further boost up the literacy rate of Brunei, who have enjoyed over 95 percent literacy rate (for age 15- 24 in the 2010 statistic) and thrive the nation to be more knowledgeable.

The bureau hopes that through the project, it can instill the culture and habit of reading among the youth.

The project is a follow up of the Reading Month Project which was first launched in 2002.

Brunei, which stands 30th among the 187 countries with 0.855 at the Human Development Index (HDI), is moving towards the nation's vision 2035 to build high standard of living, education level and a dynamic economy. Endi
