Turkey and Slovenia have a significant trade potential which is worth nearly 1 billion U.S. dollars, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday, urging efforts to reach that potential.

Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting President of Slovenia Borut Pahor, Gul said that as part of its new economic program, Slovenia is pushing new privatization drive that could interest Turkish businessmen and investments.

On Thursday, Turkish and Slovenian businessman will meet in Turkey's largest city, Istanbul, to discuss investment opportunities, Gul added.

Slovenia was one of the countries that lent support to Turkey's EU membership bid, President Gul stated, adding that both countries have intense cooperation in both political and economic terms.

For his part, Pahor said that his country could provide major opportunities in terms of investment, reiterating Slovenia's support for Turkey's membership to the EU. Endi
