Albania, Macedonia to promote cooperation in infrastructure, energy

TIRANA, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) - Albania and Macedonia has vowed Thursday to promote cooperation in economy, infrastructure and energy through projects of mutual interest between the two countries.

The agreement was made when the Deputy Prime Minister of Macedonia in charge of implementation of the Ohrid Framework Agreement, Musa Xhaferi visited Tirana on Thursday after holding meetings with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi,.

Rama and Xhaferi paid special attention to intensification of communication between the two governments. Rama expressed the government of Albania support for full implementation of Ohrid Agreement as a guarantee for development of the entire region. Xhaferi positively assessed interest of Macedonia in cooperation with concrete projects and expressed his optimism about the potential of this cooperation for improvement of economy and welfare.

Peleshi said that the government of Albania encourages implementation of Ohrid Agreement because it appreciates that Albanian factor in Macedonia, like the Macedonian minority in Albania, can and must be factors of unity, intensification and strengthening of relations between the two countries.

The Albanian deputy prime minister emphasized that the regional initiatives in the field of infrastructure, energy and tourism will create a synergy into the economic and social development of our countries. He added that the road of European integration is the best guarantee to prosperity of our countries and for building a better future for all the citizens.

Xhaferi positively assessed the readiness of the government of Albania to deepen cooperation and emphasized the need of exchanging experience between Albania and Macedonia. He added that Macedonia has a good experience in some fields like European integration, incitement of foreign investments, reform in agriculture and regional projects. He voiced his wish for an intensive and concrete communication among the institutions in all the levels and in favor of the two countries.
