Around 980 food parcels were delivered on Friday into a besieged Palestinian refugee camp in the capital Damascus, the official SANA news agency reported.
980 food parcels were delivered to restive people in the Yarmouk camp, the report said, adding that about 150 people, including women, elders and the sick, were evacuated and transported into hospitals inside Damascus.
Friday's batch came one day after 1,145 parcels were delivered to the trapped people in the camp, which was overrun by the rebels last year. The government troops struck a siege around the camp to push the rebels out, accusing them of using civilians as human shields.
Palestinian refugees have been severely affected by the ongoing armed conflict in Syria, with virtually all of their residential areas experiencing armed engagements or the use of heavy weapons.
The Yarmouk camp is a large district in southern Damascus that houses around one million people, only 170,000 of them are Palestinians. Currently there are 20,000 Palestinians and 10,000 Syrians trapped inside the camp.
When the violence started creeping toward the camp in early 2013, many of its residents whether Syrians or Palestinians left their homes for places inside Damascus or in neighboring Lebanon. Endi
