Georgia will have a consular service in Sochi during the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in the Russian city and the consular representative will be within the framework of the Swiss Interests Section, it was announced on Monday.

Georgia's first deputy Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaniani told the press that the consular service will work around the clock.

Georgia and Russia do not have diplomatic relations which were severed after the August 2008 conflict.

"We will send a Georgian consular representative within the framework of the Swiss Interests Section," said the senior diplomat.

Georgia and Russia have since August 2008 had their respective diplomatic interests represented by Switzerland in each other's capitals.

Georgia is sending a 19-member delegation to Sochi. Only four Georgian athletes, three alpine skiers and one figure skater, will compete in Sochi.

The Georgian Olympic delegates will depart for Sochi on Feb. 4 and 6 in two groups via direct flights.

The Georgian National Olympic Committee secretary-general and vice-president are scheduled to depart on Feb. 4. Endite
