Indian police have arrested two youths for allegedly sexually molesting two French women tourists in the western state of Rajasthan, a senior police official said Thursday.

"The two accused posed as tourist guides and molested the two French women Wednesday after taking the victims to an isolated place at the historic Mandore Garden in the state's Jodhpur city. The duo were nabbed after the two women shouted and alerted others, " he said on condition of anonymity.

The two accused have been charged under relevant sections of the Indian law, the official added.

Sexual assaults on foreign tourists are common in India.

Last month, a Danish woman tourist was gangraped by some eight men whom she had approached after losing her way back to a hotel in the Indian capital.

A Swiss woman was gangraped by a group of men in the central state of Madhya Pradesh last year while she was on a cycling tour along with her husband. Endit
