The worldwide increasing nuclear energy production brings risks, judicial and decision-making challenges for present and future generations, Behnam Taebi, assistant professor of philosophy at Delft University of Technology told Xinhua recently.

With the development of nuclear power plants various nuclear technologies are involved. "Some of them we call dual use technology. Those are the type of technologies we need for the purpose of nuclear energy production, but those are also the type of technologies that could be used for destructive purposes," Taebi said.

In order to find more international consensus on the nuclear security issue, the third edition of the Nuclear Security Summit will be organized in The Hague on March 24-25.

"The NSS is currently focusing on the protection of nuclear materials and nuclear plants, which is a relevant issue," Taebi said.

However, he believed this was only a small part of a bigger story, and the expansion of nuclear facilities is going to be an important issue that should be addressed.

"There are many emerging economies that are set to be nuclear producing countries, and the issue of dual use technology will be around," he said. Endi
