The Ukrainian government would compensate the families of more than 100 victims in the recent anti-government protests, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Friday.
"We are under obligation to the families and children of those killed from both sides of the conflict," Yatsenyuk told a cabinet meeting.
The families of the protesters and riot police officers who lost their lives would each get around 10,800 U.S. dollars as one-time payment, he said.
In addition, the prime minister has ordered the government to provide income security worth 460 dollars per month for the families that lost their bread-earners during the protests.
Demonstrations in Ukraine began last November when then President Viktor Yanukovych shelved a trade and economic agreement with the European Union and turned instead to Russia for financial aid. The rallies turned violent in February, when at least 104 people were killed in clashes between riot police and activists.
