Landslides incurred by heavy downpours caused a train derailed in Tasikmalaya of West Java on Friday evening, killing five people, official said here.

The accident took place when Malabar train en-routing West Java to East Java was passing Kampung Terung Village at 18:30 p.m. Jakarta time, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of national disaster agency.

"Three carriages derailed and five others remained on the rails. Three corpses have been evacuated, but two others remained trapped in the carriages," he told Xinhua by phone.

Rescuers are trying hard to evacuate the two bodies, said Sutopo.

The train was carrying about 250 people, according to Sutopo.
