The average agricultural land price in Bulgaria in 2013 rose by 8.6 percent year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said Monday.

The average price per decare of agricultural land reached 594 BGN (420 U.S. dollars) in 2013, NSI said.

The main drivers for the high price were increases of price of vineyards which stood at 21.8 percent, the largest rise of the year; and arable lands by 11.7 percent and orchards by 5.1 percent, the NSI data showed.

The only decrease of price was posted for the permanent grassland, with a decline of 8.8 percent.

The rent also saw its price up in 2013, year-on-year it increased 11.8 percent.

The average rent price per decare of leased agricultural land in 2013 reached 38 BGN (some 27 U.S. dollars).

In comparison to the previous year, the rent price for vineyards hit their highest level, with an increase of 61.9 percent.

"Thus, in 2013 the vineyards exceeded the price for orchards and approached the price for arable land," NSI said.

Amongst the observed land use categories, land allocated to permanent grassland decreased by 11.1 percent, the institution added. Endi
