The Iranian Foreign Ministry welcomed a recent reconciliation deal between the Palestinian Islamic movement of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority (PA), Press TV reported on Saturday.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes solidarity among Palestinian groups against the Zionist regime (of Israel)," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said, adding that Iran also recognizes "any kind of national reconciliation which results in Palestinian unity."

The Islamic republic backs any measure contributing to the anti- Israel campaign, Afkham was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Wednesday Hamas and the PA reached a reconciliation agreement after two days of meeting, pledging to end differences, form a unity government within five weeks and hold a general election within six months. Endi
