India's Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Thursday expressed his confidence of his party getting a clear majority in the new Lok Sabha or Lower House of Parliament.

In an interview with local TV channel Times Now, Modi said: "I have explained everything clearly that BJP is winning with a clear majority and we will be forming the strongest and most stable government since Rajiv Gandhi's government."

He also said that the BJP has the support of many other parties while playing down differences with regional or smaller parties.

"For the first time in India's political history, the BJP has 25 parties in a pre-poll alliance in the electoral fray. Even during the NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance) regime, we didn't have a pre-poll alliance. The Congress too has never had a pre-poll alliance on this scale," he said.

Modi also denied BJP using religious issue to win support from the voters, saying Hinduism is not religion but a way of life.

Pre-election polls showed the BJP could get 270 seats in the 540-seat Parliament, while incumbent Congress might get around 110.

The general election began one month ago and will end on May 12, while the official results of the marathon elections will be announced by on May 16. Endi
