India's Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) said Friday that it wants peace with neighboring country Pakistan and separatists of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"BJP is 100 percent committed to peace with Pakistan and also wants peace with Hurriyat (freedom) Conference," former BJP president, Nitin Gadkari said in Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Gadakari's statement comes day after BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi said there can be no talks with Pakistan until alleged Pakistan-perpetrated violence against India stops.

The armies of two countries are intermittently targeting each other along line-of-control (LoC) dividing Kashmir into India and Pakistan controlled parts.

The BJP leader said his party was committed to peace, prosperity and development in Indian-controlled Kashmir and priority would be given to the region's development if it comes to power in India.

"We are committed to peace, progress and prosperity here," he said.

Gadkari told the media that BJP would not discriminate on the basis of religion and accused Congress party and other parties of creating a fear that BJP and its prime ministerial candidate was against the minorities in India.

"We are very much committed for the progress and development of Jammu and Kashmir (Indian-controlled Kashmir). We want to fight poverty, hunger and unemployment here and I assure you that we don 't discriminate on the basis of caste, creed, language and religion and do not do politics on such issues," he said.

Indian-controlled Kashmir sends six members for the 543-member lower house of Indian parliament known as Lok Sabha.

In ongoing elections, the Congress Party is seeking to regain power under leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the fourth generation scion of India's powerful Nehru-Gandhi clan. He is facing Modi. Endi
