Flood waters reach Polish capital

After weekend flooding in southern Poland, the Vistula river, which flows through Warsaw, has exceeding alarm levels in the city Tuesday.

In the evening, the alarm level has reached 670 cm and is expected to rise to 700 by Wednesday morning as the flood wave flows through central Poland, local media reported.

Polish Interior Minister Bartlomiej Sienkiewicz said the worst is over but the flooding situation will continue to be monitored.

About 2,700 firemen, 450 police officers and 300 soldiers have been sent to participate in rescue mission to protect the people and their properties, said Sienkiewicz.

The Vistula, Poland's longest river, runs from the mountains in the South through the center of the country down to the Baltic coast. Endi
