Two Polish nationals have been sentenced to 28 days in prison for smuggling 2,400 litres of beer and one litre of liquor into Norway, the Norwegian news agency NTB reported on Sunday.

The verdict was issued by the Inntroendelag district court. However, the report did not say when the court made the ruling.

On May 19, the two Poles, a driver and a passenger, were arrested after the vehicle they were travelling in were found carrying a large amount of smuggled beer during a routine customs inspection at Stjordal, a city 24 km east of Trondheim in central Norway.

The vehicle had an invalid Norwegian driving license purchased on the Internet and it was also found to have been modified for heavier loads.

The goods were to be delivered to an unknown Norwegian who they had contact with on the Internet.

The court also ordered the driver not to drive on Norwegian roads in 18 months. Endi
