15 Turkish citizens kidnapped in northern Iraq

Iraqi militants have kidnapped another 15 Turkish citizens working in a construction site near Kirkuk in northern Iraq, Turkey's daily Hurriyet reported on Wednesday.

A group of armed militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) raided the construction site of a hospital in northern Iraq on Tuesday and kidnapped about 60 foreign workers, a kidnapped person who was freed was quoted as saying.

He said that the kidnapped foreign workers also included Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepal and Turkmenistan nationals.

On Thursday, Turkey's Foreign Ministry urged its citizens in Iraq to leave the country immediately following the abduction of 80 Turkish citizens in northern Iraqi city of Mosul, capital of Nineveh province, by the Iraqi militants.

Last Wednesday, a group of ISIL militants took control of Turkey's consulate general in Mosul, and abducted 49 staff and family members, including the consul-general.

Meanwhile, 31 Turkish nationals were also taken hostage by the same militant group in a power plant in the Gyarah region of Mosul, according to a statement issued by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, adding that rescue efforts are still underway. Endi
