Traditional villages nestling in Macedonian hilly areas have the potential to develop rural tourism, according to analysts at a conference held here on Thursday.
Rural tourism would boost local economy and handmade artifacts and organic food, mostly produced by local women, would attract the tourists, which would also highlight the role of women, said Alberto Pogorelc, an Italian adviser at the event.
Themed "Women Initiative for Development of the Balkan Rural Tourism", the conference was organized by the Central European Initiative (CEI) and Centre for Women Entrepreneurs in Skopje to promote regional female entrepreneurship.
Developing regional rural tourism by creating Balkan Regional Brand and Strategy has also been discussed and proposals are expected to be promoted during the conference.
More than 60 participants from CEI members who are engaged in the development of rural tourism attended the event.
Our goal is to offer unique measures for each country in Balkan to attract tourists from third countries, such as Japan and western European nations, Violeta Nikolova Mancevska, Director of the Centre for Women Entrepreneurs, added.
To create conditions for development of rural tourism in compliance with European Union trends and standards in order to bring income and jobs to this region is the main goal of CEI. Endi
