At least 11 people were killed and many others injured in a blast and consequent fire at a pipeline of a state-owned gas company in southern India early on Friday, said officials.

A huge blast took place at 06:00 a.m. at a gas pipeline of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's gas connection station in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, said officials.

At least 11 people were burnt alive while 15 others seriously injured. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Earlier, officials said three were killed in the fire.

Huge flames were seen at the site and which sent panic among people in the area. At least five fire tenders were sent to tackle the inferno.

The cause of the incident is being investigated, said officials. Endi
