UAE arrests alleged Qatari spy agents: media

The Authorities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have arrested alleged members of the Qatari intelligence service operating in the UAE, daily Al-Khaleej reported on Wednesday.

An unnamed source claimed that "the arrested Qatari nationals in the UAE were intelligence officials." The report did not reveal how many suspects were arrested nor when and where in the UAE the detention took place.

The arrest would confirm that Qatar was "still detached from respecting the internal affairs of its neighbors thereby breaching the Riyadh agreement signed early this year," according to the source.

Earlier in the year, the UAE, along with Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, withdrew its ambassador in Doha, citing that Qatar was not doing enough against a Muslim cleric who blamed the UAE of having helped Egypt's military to topple president Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in July last year.

Al Khaleej quoted the source as saying that the available information on the spy agents contradicted with Qatari daily Al Arab's reports that the Qatari nationals were in the UAE to spend their holidays there. Endi
