"I am deeply shocked by the tragic news about the crash of flight MH17 from Malaysian Airlines from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over Ukrainian territory," Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said in a statement Thursday.

Rutte left on Wednesday for a holiday, but immediately returned after hearing the news.

"Still very much is unclear about the facts, circumstances and the occupants," Rutte added.

"I just talked with the Ukrainian president and I am on my way back to the Netherlands. From The Hague I will monitor the situation and continue to act," said Rutte.

Rutte continued, "Our thoughts are now with the passengers, their family and friends."

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently trying to find out who were on the plane, but they are also dependent on information by Malaysia Airlines.

Several local travel agencies reported dozens of Dutch citizens in the flight.

Dutch airlines KLM, which shared the flight with flight number KL4103, did not give an official reaction yet. Endi
