Chinese FM meets Lao deputy PM in Myanmar

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on the sidelines of the series of Foreign Ministers Meetings on East Asia cooperation in Myanmar's capital of Nay Pyi Taw Friday.

Witnessing important progress in China-Laos relations this year, Wang Yi said leaders of the two countries have pointed the way for the enhancement of comprehensive strategic cooperation and advancement of bilateral relations.

Cherishing its special friendship with the Lao side, the Chinese side stands ready to offer strong support to the development of Laos, he said.

Going forward, China and the Laos should work to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, step up cooperation on major projects that are of strategic significance and take the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries to high level, he stressed.

Lao Foreign Minister Thongloun said the Lao side highly values the progress achieved in Laos-China relations since the beginning of this year and is grateful to China for its previous help in the economic and social undertaking of the Laos.

Calling China as the most trust-worthy and reliable friend and partner of Laos, he expressed Laos' willingness to promote cooperation with China in various fields in accordance with the consensus of leaders of the two countries.

He added that the Lao side will also play a positive role in improving ASEAN-China strategic cooperative relations. Endi
