Algeria, Mali condemn attack against UN personnel

Algeria and Mali on Friday have condemned the "repeating criminal acts" targeting the United Nations personnel in northern Mali, according to the final statement of the sixth session of the Algerian-Malian Bilateral Strategic Committee on Northern Mali which wrapped up Friday in Algiers.

The latest attack was perpetrated last week, as a suicide attack on a U.N. patrol base killing two U.N. peacekeepers and injuring nine others.

The United Nations deployed 12,600 peacekeeping troops in northern Mali to restore peace and stability in this troubled region.

Islamist insurgents who seized once the northern Mali continue committing attacks against foreign troops.

Meanwhile, Algeria and Mali agreed to work together to mobilize the international community to further improve the humanitarian situation of the people of the sub-Saharan region, the statement said. Endi
