Macedonian parliament on Wednesday adopted draft Constitutional amendments involving defining marriage strictly as a union between a man and a woman, local media MIA reported.

One of the draft amendments proposes to define both marriage and legally recognized extramarital relationship as a union between a man and a woman, which paves the way to block same sex adoption.

Of other draft amendments, one proposed change is to establish an international financial zone which will provide favorable conditions to attract international banks and companies to operate in Macedonia.

To regulate governmental financial policy, it is also suggested that the budget deficit should be limited to 3 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) and public debt should not exceed 60 percent of the GDP.

Macedonian government proposed and achieved endorsement to amend the Constitution from parliament in July.

Since the parliament adopted the draft Constitutional amendments, these draft amendments are set to be put forward for a 30-day public debate. After that, the government should submit draft amendments with possible remarks from the discussion for the last vote in the parliament.

A two-thirds majority is needed for each proposed amendment to be passed while Macedonia's ruling party VMRO DPMNE led by PM Gruevski with its political allies already secured two-thirds seats in parliamentary election. Enditem
