Ukraine's Poroshenko says EU supports his proposed Russian sanctions

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Saturday his proposed new Russian sanctions were supported by the majority of European Union member states.

"We have talked about sanctions and based on my proposals, which were supported by the majority of the member states, there are possible sanctions that would be implemented -- sectoral of the third level," he told a news conference after an EU summit meeting in Brussels.

Poroshenko said he is sure Saturday the EU will have the decision to support all the proposals he has introduced.

"They will be linked to the success of peace plan of the President of Ukraine," he said, adding that the plan is also supported by the European Union Member States.

Besides the sanctions, Poroshenko said the EU will also adopt the third way of market financial support for Ukraine, with a loan of 1 billion euro (1.31 billion U.S. dollars) for Ukraine.

According to Poroshenko, before the end of this year, Ukraine will get 510 million euros' loan and another 250 million euros as a grant that needs not be returned. (1 euro = 1.31 U.S. dollars) Endti
