Tajik authorities said Tuesday that an Afghan national was detained at the border for attempting to smuggle a large amount of hashish into the country.

The detainee, named Jumagul Valadi Saodatyor and aged 20, tried to illegally cross the border with the help of a self-made floating vessel, according to a press release of the Drug Control Agency (DCA).

DCA officers and border guards caught him on the Tajik riverside and found 20 bags of hashish, with a total weight of 18 kg, in his boat, the DCA said.

It added that the seizure was made in collaboration with the Afghan Interior Ministry and under the framework of an anti-drug operation dubbed Kuknor-2014, or Poppy-2014.

A criminal probe has been launched. Endi
