Libya's ex-parliament appoints new government

Libya's outgoing General National Congress (GNC) on Tuesday granted trust to Omar al-Hasi's new cabinet, forming its own governnment, a member of GNC told Xinhua.

Mohamed Al-Kilani, a lawmaker of former GNC, said the congress in an evening session unanimously granted trust to the cabinet presented by Hasi which composed of 19 ministries.

According to Libya's transitional plan, the newly elected parliament, House of Representatives, has already replaced the former interim GNC. However, the Islamist armed alliance Libya Dawn, who achieved a series of military progress lately in Tripoli, backed the ex-parliament to resume power and form its own government against the new one.

At the same session, GNC also announced that it dismissed the interim government of Abdallah Al-Thinni, which was appointed Monday by the new parliament.

The oil-rich country has witnessed frayed political process, which is now juggling two rival parliaments and governments.

Since May, Libya has endured bloody clashes between Islamist armed groups and pro-secular militias. The conflict has spread to other major cities like Benghazi, Gharyan and Zawiya. Endi
