European Union (EU) member states will discuss and assess further sanction proposals against Russia delivered by the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, an official statement said Wednesday.

The European Commission adopted proposals for further sanctions against Russia following a request from the European Council delivered to the Council's Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER).

"It is now for member states to discuss and assess the Commission's proposals," the statement said.
