Tokyo shares end higher by break on buoyant US market, firm dollar

Tokyo stocks ended the morning session Thursday higher, supported by a buoyant performance in the overnight U.S. market, as weel as a strong U.S. dollar that trades at upper 106 yen level.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 75.66 points, or 0.48 percent, from Wednesday to end the morning session at 15,864.44, briefly touching 15,905.03, its highest level since Jan. 23 on an intraday basis.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.29 points, or 0.25 percent, to 1,310. 08.
