At least seven people were killed and many others wounded on Tuesday when an explosive-packed vehicle went off near a rebel-held Syrian-Turkish border, activists and the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.

The explosive-laden car went off at garage near the Bab al- Salam border crossing in the rebel-held northern town of Azaz in Aleppo province, said the report.

Meanwhile, a Syrian war jet was shot down by the Islamic State over the al-Raqqa province in northern Syria on Tuesday, activists said, adding that eight people were killed as the war jet crashed into a residential area.

Separately, the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front and other like- minded groups completed on Tuesday their control over the borderline that separates the southern province of al-Qunaitera with the Israeli-held Golan Heights, according to activists' reports.

Two weeks ago, the Nusra and other affiliated groups unleashed a wide-scale offensive to strip the government forces of large swathes of al-Qunaitera, capturing the border crossing between Syria and the Israeli-held Golan Heights.

In the capital Damascus, several mortar shells fired by the rebels from suburbs slammed into residential areas inside the city, killing and injuring unknown number of people.

Battles between the rebels and the Syrian government forces have risen recently, particularly after the international community reached a consensus regarding fighting terrorism in Syria. Endi
