With their gold medals in the one meter springboard, newly-crowned World Cup champion Shi Tingmao and rookie He Chao celebrated the 65th National Day for China at the Incheon Asian Games here on Wednesday.

The 1m springboard was introduced to the Asian Games in 1990 and restarted since 2006.

Shi Tingmao, women's 3m springboard champion in FINA World Cup in Shanghai last July, led from the start to the end, claiming the title in 308.45 points while teammate Wang Han and Kim Nami of South Korea came second and third respectively.

"It is a great honor that we win gold and silver medals as gifts to celebrate the National Day. It is my second Asian Games, I feel more confident and experienced than before. I can concentrate on the competition and enjoy every dive, " Shi said.

In a showdown between the Chinese brothers, the 22-year-old He Chao beat his Olympic champion brother He Chong in the 1m springboard, winning his first international title by 462.85. He Chong came second in 443.10 and Woo Haram of South Korea third 410.00.

As the pre-meet favorite and 3m defending champion, He Chong revealed he has competed 10 big events before the Asian Games this year. "The Incheon Asian Games is my 11st big event so far this year, I felt tired. I did not compete and train in 1m for 5 years. So I could not find the feeling on it and made some minor mistakes," He Chong said.

"I will not defend my title in 3m since I have injuries to my shoulder, knee and ankle. I would like to cheer up for my little brother He Chao and Cao Yuan when they compete in 3m springboard," said the 27-year-old.

He Chao was delighted for his first international title. "I am excited to compete together with my elder brother. I did a good job today though I had some minor mistakes. I hope I can compete more international events to gain experience in the future," He Chao said.

He Chao will compete in the men's 3m springboard together with Cao Yuan while Huang Xiaohui and Si Yajie show up in the women's 10m platform on Oct. 2. Enditem
