Uganda's new prime minister swears in

Uganda's new Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda on Thursday was sworn in at a ceremony held at State House Entebbe, 40 km south of the Ugandan capital Kampala.

Rugunda, the former health minister who replaces sacked Amama Mbabazi, took oath of allegiance before President Yoweri Museveni.

Uganda's Parliament on Tuesday approved the appointment of Rugunda as the East African country's new prime minister following the sacking of Mbabazi by Museveni on Sept. 19.

"I am the one who appointed him because I know him. Parliament was unanimous in its parliamentary approval which is shocking," Museveni said at the ceremony.

Rugunda, who served as Uganda's permanent representative at the UN from January 2009 until May 2011, said he will prioritize service delivery, jobs creation to absorb skilled youth and transformation.

"The country is peaceful. There is no reason to continue walking when we should be running," said Rugunda.

Museveni reportedly sacked Mbabazi over the latter's alleged presidential intentions to contest in the 2016 presidential elections on the ruling National Resistance Movement party ticket. Endi
