Leader retailer chain Carrefour saw its sales rise 2.8 percent during the third quarter of 2014 thanks to boosted demand in Latin America and Asian markets, the groups said on Thursday.
From July to September, Carrefour's sales amounted to 21.1 billion euros (26.7 billion U.S. dollars), according to company data.
In France, which consumes 40 percent of the group's products, sales inched up 0.2 percent. This was "in spite of unusually heavy rainfall in July and August and a significant cyclical decrease in fruit and vegetable prices," the firm said.
Sales in international markets grew 5 percent on robust demand in Argentina and Brazil, where the French group posted 34.6 percent and 12.8 percent increases respectively.
Asian markets continued to expand with growing demand driving Carrefour sales up 3.4 percent over the third quarter.
At Paris' main stock exchange index CAC 40, a deceleration in France and poor performance in Europe tainted resilient sales in international markets and overshadowed transactions of Carrefour shares which lost 1.13 percent to reach 21.83 euros. Enditem
