Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski together with Re'uwen Riwlin, president of Israel attended the opening ceremony of Polish Jewish History Museum held in Warsaw on Tuesday.

"The Museum is an impulse for good cooperation and relations between Poland and Israel in future," said the Polish President.

Presidents of both countries attended the opening ceremony held in Warsaw on Tuesday, October 28th. Komorowski assessed in his speech, that the Museum has a chance to restore the memory of Jewish life in Poland as well as the memory of their death and suffering.

He stressed that "it is impossible to understand and fully experience the history of Polish without the knowledge of the history of Polish Jews." He pointed out that this is due not only to the centuries-old Jewish presence in Poland, but also the importance of the Jewish community in many areas of Polish life - in economy, culture, and science.

Polish president added that after the Second World War "in the collective consciousness of the Jews, which is fully understandable, Poland has become mostly a giant graveyard of their nation", however, he hoped that the creation of the Museum will contribute to the reconstruction of "the world of deep, positive Polish-Jewish emotions, will be a place of dialogue and clever tool to restore full historical memory."

The inauguration of the Museum was attended by representatives of the highest authorities of the Polish state and abroad. In addition to the Polish and Israeli presidents, many more were present, including Marshal of the Polish Sejm, Radoslaw Sikorski, Speaker of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, as well as representatives of the Sejm and the Senate. Among the guests were also ambassadors and diplomats, representatives of the Jewish community in Poland and the Jewish Historical Institute Association. Endit
