The UN Security Council on Thursday condemned "in the strongest terms" terrorist bomb attacks against the embassies of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Tripoli, Libya.

"The members of the Security Council condemned all acts of violence against diplomatic premises, which endanger innocent lives and seriously impede the normal work of diplomatic representatives and officials," said the council in a press statement.

"The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice," added the statement.

Recalling the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, the Security Council urged Libya to take all appropriate steps to protect those facilities against any intrusion or damage.

Libya has witnessed escalating violence since the 2011 turmoil that toppled the country's former leader Muammar Gaddafi, while Egypt has been facing a rising wave of terrorism since the ouster of former President Mohamed Morsi by the military in July last year. Endi
