French national probably among IS militants on newly released video: French minister

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on Monday said there was a very strong probability that a French citizen was among Islamic State (IS) militants who appeared on a beheading video released by the group on Sunday.

"This analysis by French intelligence services suggests with a very high probability that a French citizen could have directly participated in carrying out these abject acts," Cazeneuve said.

Hauchard Maxime went to Syria in August 2013 after a stay in Mauritania a year earlier, he added.

The 22-year-old man appeared to be among a group of jihadists who were seen on a video, which showed the decapitated head of American hostage Peter Kassig, an aid worker.

Kassig was the fifth western captive beheaded by the IS in response to the United-States-led coalition attacks against Daech in Iraq and Syria. Endit
