U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to India in January to participate in the Indian Republic Day celebration, the White House said Friday.
Invited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Obama will be the first U.S. president to attend a Republic Day celebration, which commemorates the adoption of India's constitution, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.
Obama will meet with Modi and Indian officials to "strengthen and expand the U.S.-India strategic partnership," Earnest added.
In late September, Modi paid a five-day visit to the U.S., during which he addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York and held talks with Obama at the White House. Enditem
