Tokyo stocks ended 0.08 percent higher on Monday, as the weak gross domestic product (GDP) data of Japan released earlier the day offset the positive effect stemmed by gains on Wall Street.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 15.19 points, from Friday at 17,935.64.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 1.91 points, or 0.13 percent, to 1,447. 58.
Major gainers included rubber products, nonferrous metal and automaker issues, but fishery and mining issues lost ground.
The turnover was 2,422.4 billion yen (about 19.93 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
