Rescuers discover 46 bodies in Indonesia's landslide

Search and rescue operation to find the victims of Friday's landslides in Indonesia's Central Java continues as rescuers have discovered 46 corpses, official said here on Monday.

The operation involved scores of heavy machinery equipments which may accelerate the works, Beni Murwansyah, official in charge at national disaster management agency told Xinhua by phone.

The landslide, which occurred Friday night in Banjarnegara district of Central Java, had forced 1,776 people flee home and take shelters in some spots, according to him.

The threat of possible further landslides at the scene due to rain has led the agency to issue warning to people to avoid the area, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the agency has told Xinhua previously.

Murwansyah said that at least 62 people remain missing with 8 people suffering from serious injury and being treated in a nearby hospital.

As many as 16 other have minor wounds, he said.
