The British Embassy in Egypt's capital Cairo on Tuesday resumed full services to the public after nine days of closure over security concerns, said a statement posted on its website.

"The embassy resumed public services today, Tuesday 16 December, after security issues related to the building were resolved in cooperation with the Egyptian government," it said.

London closed its embassy for public services on Dec. 7 due to unspecified security reasons. The Canadian Embassy in Cairo, next to the British embassy in the Garden City of central Cairo, remains shut to the public.

It suspended its public services a day after the British embassy.

Foreign missions stepped up their security measures since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi last July that prompted a surge of militant attacks targeting Egyptian security forces and public facilities.

The attacks centered basically in the restive Sinai Peninsula, but they have crept into the capital and other Nile Delta cities.

The Sinai-based Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis, or Champions of Jerusalem, has claimed responsibilities for most of the attacks.

The blacklisted group also threatened to attack some foreign embassies in Egypt, but Egyptian authorities denied any reports of specific threats to the embassies. Endit
