Slovenian National Chemistry Institute chief Janko Jamnik died here on Friday three days after he was shot in the head by unknown person near a parking lot in Ljubljana.
While confirming Jamnik's death, the General Police Administration failed to give any information about the investigation over the killing.
Jamnik, who had been chief of the National Chemistry Institute since 2008, was found in a pool of blood in front of a restaurant late on Tuesday. He was shot at close range and a silencer was used, according to preliminary findings.
The mysterious assassination occurred less than 10 days after the institute launched an 11-million-euro (13 million U.S. dollars) project, aiming at transforming carbon dioxide into a type of clean energy -- methanol.
A man, who asked not to be identified, said that Jamnik and his colleagues were trying to develop a new product that will make it possible -- a fully charged electric car can be driven 700 kilometers continuously before the next charge. Endit
